About

Working out of a small studio on the island of Maui, I make functional pottery. Primarily my pieces are containers for food, drinks or plant life and are meant to be touched, held, and enjoyed as an artistic part of everyday life.

I work mainly with stoneware clay firing to a temperature of approximately 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. My pieces are both thrown on a potter’s wheel and are handbuilt. I try to work in a straightforward manner in order to respect the simplicity and humble nature of clay. This results in revealing both the marks of the making process as well as unexpected results on the surface of the piece from the process of high temperature firing.

My work is inspired by the ceramic traditions of East Asia but taken in a modern direction. I consider my work “traditional made modern”.
